In honor of their late father and grandfather, Don Koranda Sr., the owners of Legacy Power Line, Inc. stepped up and offered students in our Electrical Line Worker Technology program an additional option for funding. Beginning in the fall of 2014, the Don Koranda Sr. Memorial Scholarship provides a $500 scholarship annually to a student enrolled in the line worker program.
This scholarship was created by Jim Koranda and Shawn Koranda, the son and grandson of Don and the owners and operators of Legacy Power Line in Wadena. Legacy is an overhead power line contracting firm that serves rural electric cooperatives and municipal power companies in Minnesota, Iowa and North and South Dakota.
Don worked at the Todd Wadena Electric Cooperative in Wadena for 39 years, starting as a laborer and working his way up through the ranks as a lineman, foreman and line staker. His hard work and dedication to the industry inspired many members of his family to follow in his footsteps. Jim (1973) and Shawn (1995) both received their education at M State and have used Don’s inspiration and their education to create a thriving business that supports the electrical line worker industry.
Jim and Shawn give back by serving on M State’s line worker program advisory committee and now look forward to honoring Don by supporting the next generation of line workers through the scholarship.
